Trips form an integral part of life at Bromley High School. We offer an excellent range of day and residential trip with an academic and non academic focus.
Departments are very active in offering day trips linked to their academic studies. Being so close to London provides a myriad of opportunities to bring their subjects alive such as visits to museums, the theatre, lectures, plays, competitions and historic sights. These visits further develop the girls’ love of learning. We also offer a wide range of residential trips such as the annual Music Tour and Art Study Tour.
Academic Trips
Throughout the year, numerous enrichment trips are available to students from year 7 to year 13. Most half-terms include a trip to see a play or a musical, allowing students to expand their cultural capital. Dinner is also included, providing students with opportunities to mingle and make friends across different year groups. Past trips have included:
- To Kill a Mockingbird
- Phantom of the Opera
- Hadestown
- The King and I
- Les Miserables
- A Midsummer Night’s Dream
- Frozen
In addition, Year 12 students are offered the opportunity to visit Oxford University during the Spring Term. They visit a number of colleges and the Union. Pupils also have the chance to talk to one of our alumnae about the application process, what it is like to study there, and receive tips on how to succeed.
Language Trips & Exchanges
Girls are encouraged to take part in the French, Spanish and German trips offered by the Modern Foreign Languages Department. The visits are of great benefit to pupils, both for their language work and also as a confidence boost.
The seven-day German exchange to Brühl near Cologne involves a visit of one week by the German girls when one or two group outings will be organised – destinations vary but have recently included Hever, Canterbury or the London Dungeon. The English girls then return to Germany for a week. Dates vary according to German school holidays. Whilst in Cologne, group visits are arranged, for example a visit to the local chocolate factory, the zoo and Phantasialand.
The French department organises a homestay visit or exchange visit for girls in Year 9 to develop their language skills and have a taste of French culture.
The Spanish department organises a four-day trip to Valencia for girls who choose to study the language at GCSE and A level.
Music Tours
The music department offer both a Middle and Senior School Music Tour, with trips to Germany, France and Spain.
Ski Trips
Very successful ski trips take part each year, visiting Europe and Canada in recent years and the US.
Expeditions
We offer an annual expedition in addition to the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Our most recent trips have been to Madagascar, Mongolia, Cambodia and Laos.
