On Thursday 6th February, fourteen Year 9 pupils spent the day at the BFI London Southbank for a KS3 German Film Study Day. The morning session was conducted in German and English and focussed on the main themes of identity, family and culture. Pupils watched clips from three very different German films and completed engaging activities in German alongside each clip. They were encouraged to offer their ideas and opinions with the other participants in question and answer sessions.

In the afternoon the pupils watched a full-length film in German, “Berlin 36”, which is based on the true story of a Jewish athlete’s struggles in the run-up to the Berlin Olympics in 1936. The pupils learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the event and are now well-equipped to further their interest in film and languages.
