This week, Year 8 pupils took part in the exciting IET Faraday® Challenge Day at St Olave’s School, an enriching experience that allowed them to tackle real-world engineering problems through STEM activities.
The IET Faraday® Challenge Day offers pupils the opportunity to explore engineering challenges in a hands-on, collaborative environment. Supported by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the event is run by STEM professionals who guide pupils through tasks requiring research, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Our Year 8 pupils worked together to design and build solutions to complex problems, demonstrating impressive teamwork, critical thinking, and resilience. They embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, showcasing their creativity and determination throughout the day. Their projects received positive feedback from the STEM professionals who mentored them.
“I enjoyed the fun hands-on challenge, where we have to work as a team to create a product which meets the project brief. Teamwork was very important, and I had a lot of fun working together”Riva, Year 8 pupil
This event not only provided a valuable learning experience but also sparked a deeper interest in STEM subjects, inspiring the next generation of innovators. We are incredibly proud of our pupils for their hard work and positive attitudes. The IET Faraday® Challenge Day was a memorable experience, and we look forward to future opportunities to engage our pupils in STEM in meaningful and enjoyable ways.
“I really enjoyed the collaborative side of the project as it made me become closer with other people who I wouldn’t normally mix with, I learnt how to create a electronic circuit from scratch which was so much fun.Abigail, Year 8 pupil
