As part of our PSHE spiral curriculum, Year 8 pupils welcomed Senior Nutritionist Ellie Olds, to revisit the topic of healthy eating.

Ellie is a registered nutritionist with Holroyd Howe, the school’s catering company.  She holds a First-Class Honours degree from Leeds Trinity University in Sport and Exercise Science, specialising in nutrition.

She talked about the food groups that make up a balanced diet, reminding pupils about the importance of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.  An emphasis was placed on the need for iron for teenage girls as their bodies go through puberty.  Ellie touched upon links between gut health and links to feelings and mood, again an important consideration for our Year 8 pupils.

We look forward to working with Ellie again and involving her in other aspects of our PSHE curriculum.
