Fifteen talented girls from Year 4 embraced the thrilling Astro Pi Mission Zero Challenge this year.
Tasked with writing computer programs for scientific experiments, their creations were executed on two upgraded Astro Pi computers aboard the International Space Station. These computers, named after the brilliant minds Nikola Tesla and Marie Curie, had the honor of running over 50,000 young people’s programmes before returning to Earth.
The challenge involved taking humidity readings in space and conveying personalized messages and images to the astronauts.
Five teams from Year 4 successfully entered the challenge, with their code executed by ESA Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti in May 2023. The teams proudly received certificates, marking the precise location of the ISS during their program’s operation.
Congratulations to the five teams who are pictured with their certificates:
The Stars – Amarissa, Grace and Amelia
Moony – Priya, April and Nia
Milky Way – Carla, Nyah and Liyana
