Last week, Year 13 Politics students participated in a virtual conference on Political Ideologies and Political Theory, featuring lectures from five esteemed experts in the field.
The event showcased a remarkable lineup of speakers, including Professor Archie Brown, Emeritus Professor of Politics at the University of Oxford, who provided insights into Communism and Socialism, particularly through the lens of Karl Marx. Sophie Kubik, currently pursuing an MPhil in Political Theory at Oxford, explored Thomas Hobbes’ perspectives on human nature. Additionally, Professor Fabienne Peter from the University of Warwick delivered a thought-provoking discussion on liberalism, centering on the ideas of John Rawls. Finally, Jacob Williams, a DPhil candidate at Oxford, examined Conservatism, highlighting the contributions of Edmund Burke.
This enriching experience allowed students to engage directly with leading scholars, deepening their understanding of key political concepts and theories.
