Last month, some of our Year 12 pupils embarked on an exciting journey to Oxford University, where they had the unique opportunity to experience firsthand what life as an Oxford student is truly like.

The day was packed with insights, offering a glimpse of the academic, social and extracurricular scene at Oxford. Our pupils were eager to soak up every moment. One of the highlights was a tour of Pembroke College, led by a knowledgeable GDST alumna. The personal experiences and candid answers to our pupils questions provided invaluable insights into the daily life of a prospective Oxford applicant. It was a fantastic chance to get a real student’s perspective.

To gain a broader understanding of the university, the group also visited Wadham and Magdalen Colleges. This allowed our pupils to appreciate the distinct character of each college, and to begin thinking about which environment might best suit their individual needs and preferences. Walking between the colleges, through the historic streets of Oxford, offered a taste of the city’s unique atmosphere and the typical student experience. The visit culminated in a fascinating tour of the Oxford Union, led by the Head Librarian. Pupils were captivated by the Union’s rich history and the impressive resources available to its members, many of whom are Oxford students.

The trip proved to be an incredibly worthwhile experience. Year 12 pupils returned with a much clearer understanding of Oxford University and a greater sense of whether it could be the right fit for their future. It was a day filled with inspiration and valuable insights, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
