Last year’s Bronze Duke of Edinburgh group had both their expeditions cancelled due to Covid, so it was great to see 80 of our Year 11 girls completing a modified but challenging expedition over the weekend at the start of October half term.
Supported by a brilliant staff team and four expedition assessors, the girls made their own way from Westerham to Shoreham (or vice versa) with everyone pausing in Cudham to cook a meal and put up a tent on Saturday afternoon.
Navigational skills were initially rusty as the last training hike was as far back as March, but on the second day most groups attacked their route with gusto. ‘Super Noodles’, for example, had a few route-finding issues on Saturday but performed brilliantly on Sunday.
All fourteen groups passed their expedition section and the following girls have now completed their Bronze Award – a fine achievement in this strange year.

Many other girls are within touching distance of completion.
Following on from this success we have launched the Bronze Award with the current Year 10 this week, and are encouraging as many girls as possible to sign up for the worthwhile experience.
Many thanks to Bromley High School’s Duke of Edinburgh Managers Mrs Savova and Mr S Evans.
