On Saturday 12th of January, the U’16 indoor hockey team travelled to Worcester to compete in the Indoor Hockey National Finals. Representing the East of England, our girls were competing against the best teams in each region of the country.

On Saturday the team played first against Redmaids’ High School, (representing the West), and then The Grange School, (representing the North). The girls started magnificently securing a fantastic victory of 3-2 in their first game. And despite a loss in their second match remained upbeat and committed throughout.

Sunday found them enthusiastic to get back on the pitch. The first match against Malvern College (representing the Midlands) was tense with a 0-0 score at half time. An exceptional goal scored by Malvern College in the second half meant that Bromley High was just narrowly beaten, with the final score 1-0.

Bromley High’s final game, against the eventual winners Cranleigh School, was undoubtedly the most

challenging match, with the opposition the National Indoor Hockey Champions for the past two

years. Despite this, as you would expect, our girls walked onto the pitch with great determination. Their work rate was extremely high and they pressed the opposition aggressively securing two great goals. The game was very intense and exciting, and considered by many, “the best game of the tournament”. Bromley High came away with a very respectable loss of 4-2 considering the quality of the opposition.

As always, our girls displayed complete commitment. The team all agreed that being part of Nationals had been a fantastic experience, and given them the opportunity to improve existing skills and learn new ones… And to strengthen their team bond even further! They now look forward to using these new skills to improve their game even more.
