‘Ariadne’ by Jennifer Saint
Ariadne by Jennifer Saint is an amazing book, based on the ancient Greek myth of Theseus and the Minatour. It provides a feminist retelling of that myth, telling the story through Ariadne’s perspective instead of Theseus, as is normally the case. In fact, it not only provides Ariadne’s perspective in the myth of the Minatour, but through her whole life, showing and giving a voice to a strong and powerful woman in a world that would not recognize her strength.
It is a great book for everyone, whether one is a Greek mythology enthusiast or someone who knows practically nothing about mythology, as it paints a magnificent picture and story of the world this myth is set in.
In my opinion, it is one of the best retellings there are (alongside Madeline Millers books, which I would definitely also recommend). I recommend it for ages 14+ as it does have some sensitive themes at times but it is truly a fantastic read!
