To all our families who celebrated Eid last weekend, I hope you enjoyed the joyous occasion of family get-togethers, gift-giving, charity, and prayer. It has been wonderful to hear the tales of celebrations from the girls in school.
Without a doubt, this term invokes so many memories of summers past for me; the love of long summer evenings, waking up earlier with the morning chorus, fun garden games, picnics, ice cream, BBQs, and family beach time. This year, I am looking forward to making new Summer term memories at Bromley High School. There are so many things to look forward to, including Graduation and Prom, Sports Day, Prize Giving, 140th Anniversary Alumnae Tea Party, 140th Anniversary ‘You can’t stop the beat,’ and the infamous BromFest!
One thing that is so descriptive of summer is wildflower meadows, crammed with colorful flowers and grasses waving in a light breeze. The sounds and hums of crickets and bees are reminders that we’re not the only ones who are busy! Immersing oneself in wildlife is a reminder of how good it is to be outside. I’m currently working with our Year 3 and A level Geography and Biology pupils to reintroduce some of our meadow areas within our school grounds, enhancing the biodiversity on our beautiful site.
Wild swimming has been a huge passion of mine throughout my adult life, although I must admit to being a ‘fair weather swimmer.’ My top destination is the South Devon coast, and each year I complete a charity swim. Last year was the Bantham Swoosh, the year before was the Dart 10K. Closer to home, I would strongly recommend Divers Cove, Godstone. For me, nourishing the soul in outdoor water surrounded by ducks overhanging budlia and fish is such wonderful therapy.
In terms of my Summer term bucket list, other than a week on the Med, we will be preparing for a staycation break and all the excitement that comes with planning our days out. I will enjoy the summer works we have planned in school to further improve our facilities, ready for your girls’ return in September. In the spirit of ‘water fun,’ I am also hosting Bromley High’s first-ever community sponsored swim. I would like to invite as many of you as possible to join us. There will be more details to follow about how to be a part of this exciting fundraising project. Any monies raised will support our bursary girls to access the exceptional education that we offer. I hope to see you in the water or supporting our swimmers to reach our fundraising goals.
To all our girls taking exams this Summer term, the blue Summer skies are your limit! We are so very proud of you already. By July, you will have earned some well-deserved relaxation time.
