Sophie Oliver UV1 Outstanding Charity Cello Recital
Sixth Form Music Scholar, Sophie Oliver, gave a cello recital last Thursday, 22 February, in aid of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In a programme that lasted 45 minutes, Sophie performed works by Beethoven, Elgar, Barber, Schonberg and Bridge, to a packed audience – it was standing room only!
Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in August last year, Sophie has not let it stop her from achieving her goals and recently achieved a distinction in her ATCL Performance Diploma. She has also accepted a scholarship to The Royal Academy of Music after successfully auditioning in December.
Sophie would like to thank everybody who has donated to her charity, which aims to prevent, cure and fund research into Type 1 diabetes, a lifelong condition. So far, Sophie’s recital has raised over £1,700. If you wish to donate, you can still do so through her fundraising page:
