Earlier this week, Sixth Form pupils volunteered to help teach children from Marjorie McClure School to swim in the Bromley High swimming pool.

Marjorie McClure School is an all age special school that caters for pupils with a wide range of different complex needs including physical, medical, sensory and learning needs.

The volunteering scheme is an important element of the Sixth Form Darwin Elective programme, offering pupils the opportunity to continue to develop their broader education and be exposed to a wider range of skills and experiences.

As well as giving our Sixth Formers the opportunity to teach swimming and help Marjorie McClure students in the water, they also organise a range of fun activities, offering a wonderful opportunity to enjoy working with others and improving disability awareness.

“Helping out at Marjorie McClure school during a PE lesson and a swimming lesson in their hydro pool last half term had given us the opportunity to meet all the swimmers before they arrived.
Through lots of fun activities and games we were able to help the students develop their movement and breathing skills while also helping to boost their confidence in the water. We look forward to seeing the pupils improve over the next few weeks.”Isobel, Year 13 pupil
