During our Textiles Elective, Year 13 pupil Coco has been skilfully tailoring her mother’s vintage dresses to wear herself.
Last week, Coco completed a stunning Chinese-style dress, showcasing her impressive tailoring skills. Coco made significant adjustments, including removing the sleeves, resizing the armholes, reducing the waist, and deepening the darts to achieve the perfect fit. The results are beautiful.
This week, Coco began working on a particularly meaningful project: altering the very dress her mother wore to the job interview where she first met Coco’s father. The dress, from the nostalgic Bay Trading brand, holds great sentimental value. With the help of her classmate Ella, who expertly pinned the dress to fit Coco’s shape, the project is off to a great start. Coco’s dedication and creativity are bringing new life to these cherished garments while preserving their stories.
