Charitable giving is a huge part of Bromley High School life, and pupils are extremely active in fundraising and volunteering to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Earlier this year, Year 13 pupil Ellie, travelled to The Gambia for two weeks, as part of a team of nine Volunteer Police Cadets from various London boroughs. Along four members of staff, they were involved in renovating a series of classrooms at Sanchaba Sulay Jobe Lower Basic School. Their aim was to help give young children the best possible start to their education by providing them with a clean and uplifting work space.
Ellie was also lucky enough to experience the Gambian culture by visiting families in their homes, local markets and tasting a variety of traditional foods.
“Throughout the trip there were many eye-opening experiences that made us thankful for even the small things in life, such as owning a pair of shoes and having a clean and safe education.”Ellie, Year 13
As a keen photographer and A-Level Photography student Ellie took over 4,000 photos documenting every part of the trip, the work at the school and the Gambian life and culture. Ellie and her group also produced a video to showcase their experience.
Well done Ellie, Bromley High School is proud of your commitment to volunteering.
