Year 12 and 13 Politics students had the unique opportunity to participate in a virtual university-level Politics conference entitled, “Political extremism in Europe – a threat to democracy and liberal values.”
This enlightening event allowed students to access a diverse array of university-level lectures from institutions across Europe. These experts in the field of Politics played a pivotal role in enhancing the students’ understanding of key issues related to political extremism and its implications for European Politics.
The invaluable insights gained from these talks were particularly beneficial for Bromley High School’s Politics students. Many of them found the lectures not only highly engaging but also a valuable introduction to university-level education. As the year 13 curriculum focuses on Global Politics and the rise of Nationalism, these lectures were incredibly useful in honing the students’ skills and knowledge for their upcoming assessments and examinations.
The conference featured a lineup of speakers, including:
– Dr. Roi Zur, Lecturer in Government at the University of Essex, discussing “Far right success in western Europe”
– Dr. Aurelien Mondon, Senior Lecturer at the University of Bath, addressing “Far right politics in France”
– Ms. Annelies Pauwels, a researcher on radicalization and terrorism at the Flemish Peace Institute, speaking on “Radicalization in Europe”
– Dr. Giorgos Charalambous, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Nicosia, presenting “The far right in Greece and Cyprus”
