Senior pupils took part in a series of giant collaborative light drawings to celebrate this year’s global Big Draw festival, which carries the theme ‘Drawing in Motion’.
The Big Draw Festival takes place year-round, with the official festival month celebrated in October. Since its inception in 2000, this international celebration of drawing has been held annually in over 25 countries, involving more than a 1000 events and encouraging over four million people to return to the drawing board. The Big Draw, an arts education charity and the driving force behind the festival, believes that drawing can be a powerful tool for wellbeing, creativity, thought, and social and cultural engagement. Plenty of well-known artists take part, including Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell, artist Tanya Raabe-Webber, illustrators Oliver Jeffers, Posy Simmonds, and Sir Quentin Blake.
Students traced patterns and pictures in the air, responding to word prompts and music. Year 12 photographers helped to organise, plan, and document the event. The pictures below showcase not only the fun they had but also how well they worked together to create an illuminated masterpiece!
“The Big Draw Festival is for anyone who loves to draw, as well as those who think they can’t! It’s a chance to connect, create, and celebrate the power of drawing as a universal language.”Matilda Barratt, Director of The Big Draw
