Missing Maps is a project led by a collective of organisations working towards a common goal of creating accessible map data where humanitarian organisations are operating.
Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally ‘missing’ from open and accessible maps and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts.
At Missing Maps club, Senior pupils select a location to map and follow a list of instructions telling them what to map. The completed map is then donated to the Humanitarian Open Street Map Team (one of the founders of Missing Maps) and is used to help aid organisations assess need and distribute aid.
“I attend Missing Maps club because I think contributing to a project like this one is extremely important. It has a big impact on both you and the people you are helping. I feel very proud to have done something really meaningful.”Beatrix, Year 10 pupil
