Today marked an exciting start to the academic year as Bromley High School’s Science Department welcomed 150 pupils from local schools to kick off the Schools’ Aerospace Careers Programme.

The Schools’ Aerospace Careers programme plays a crucial role in providing the UK’s young minds with contemporary and impartial career guidance within the fields of engineering and aviation.

The event was attended by Sixth Form pupils from St. Olave’s Grammar School, Bullers Wood Girls, Darrick Wood, Royal Russel School, and sister GDST schools, including Croydon High, Sydenham High, Streatham & Clapham High and Blackheath High.

Throughout the afternoon, the eager pupils were exposed to the transformative technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, including artificial intelligence, the internet-of-things (IoT), quantum computing, virtual reality, big data, and blockchain. These complex concepts were made accessible through audiovisual aids, including videos and live demonstrations featuring robotics. Moreover, the students had the unique opportunity to engage directly with industry experts, asking questions and gaining invaluable insights.

Following the presentation, the day culminated in a careers fair held in the Sixth Form Common Room, offering pupils and teachers the chance to directly interact with the presenters and gather more information about potential career paths in engineering and aviation.
