This year, Bromley High School received an HSBC Partnership grant, enabling us to expand our robotics program with 16 new Sphero robots. These robots have been instrumental in engaging local primary school children and youth groups in practical coding.
Our ‘SHINE Days’ have introduced coding concepts to numerous local primary school students through interactive, hands-on activities. Farnborough Primary School has also benefited from a loan of the Sphero kits, seamlessly integrating robotics into their existing computing curriculum. Additionally, a creative coding evening helped a local Cubs and Scouts group earn their Digital Maker Badge.
“There are so many ways to customise the Spheros to your personal liking by changing the angle, speed, time, colour, and I know there are many more things that you can do with the Spheros. I personally think they are amazing.”Year 6 pupils
This initiative has provided our pupils with valuable STEM learning experiences, fostering problem-solving skills and sparking interest in technology. The pupils have gained confidence in their ability to code, demystifying a subject that can often seem daunting.
:By providing these experiences, we aim to inspire the next generation of digital creators and problem solvers within our community.”Mrs Shallcross, EdTech and Innovation Consultant Teacher & Head of Computing (Junior School)
