This week, Bromley High School joins other schools and youth groups across the UK to take part in Children’s Mental Health Week and Time to Talk Day 2021.
At a time when children’s mental health is more important than ever, the school has been holding a number of lessons and activities to encourage positive wellbeing.
To mark the start of Children’s Mental Health Week, our Junior School held two live assemblies to launch the theme, Express Yourself. They watched a video message from The Duchess of Cambridge encouraging children and parents to find ways to share their thoughts and feelings, particularly during such a challenging time.
The pupils were also shown the Children’s Mental Health Week assembly with BAFTA Kids to help explain the creative ways pupils can share their thoughts and feelings, such as art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film.
In the Senior School this week, the focus of all Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) lessons has been Time to Talk to coincide with Time to Talk Day today (Thursday 4th February). Small conversations about mental health has the power to make a big difference, and the school has been encouraging all pupils to talk with friends and family.
The overwhelming feedback from the girls this week has been positive. They chatted whilst on walks with their parents, made telephone calls to grandparents and had socially distanced conversations with their neighbours.
“I walked around my neighbourhood three times, whilst on a call with my grandpa. Getting outside and talking to people relieved stress, and feeling the cold breeze made me more energetic.”Year 8 pupil
“Today in PSHE I went on a walk with my mum. It was great to have a break from online lessons and enjoy the lovely weather. We even had a socially distanced conversation with an elderly person who was out walking too! It was nice to get some fresh air and have a chat.”Year 8 pupil
