This year Bromley High School has embarked on an exciting project in partnership with Marjorie McClure School as part of an innovation project with Youth Sport Trust to promote inclusive swimming and water safety.
Marjorie McClure School is an all age special school that caters for pupils with a wide range of different complex needs including physical, medical, sensory and learning needs. The school is part of the Youth Sport Trust, which supports inclusion in PE and swimming through staff training, competition and leadership opportunities for SEND students.
Lorna Crust, Founder of Aquakids Swim School, led the project and was responsible for training our Sixth Formers to become aquatic helpers. The pupils undertook two theory sessions learning about core aquatic skills, disability awareness and water safety and even learnt some sign language which was helpful during the sessions. The girls also learnt about the FLAME award and values which are embedded into the school curriculum at Marjorie McClure. They thoroughly enjoyed the warmth of the hydro pool with the sensory lights, equipment and meeting Marjorie McClure students
Following the training, the girls had some fantastic sessions at Bromley High swimming pool, with new friendships made. We look forward to continuing this collaboration between both schools that benefit so many.
