Senior School pupils were delighted to have the privilege of listening to a Minerva Lecture by the internationally renowned anthropologist and Bromley High School alumna Professor Dame Marilyn Strathern.
The lecture was titled “Reflections of a Social Anthropologist,” offering a unique insight into her illustrious career and the field of anthropology as a whole.
Dame Marilyn Strathern, who studied at Bromley High School between 1952 to 1959, has had a distinguished career, with a significant focus on her work with the people of Papua New Guinea and her contributions to feminist anthropology. Her professional journey includes roles as a researcher at the New Guinea Research Unit of the Australian National University and as a professor in Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge.
Notably, during her tenure at Cambridge, Dame Marilyn also held the esteemed position of Mistress of Girton College, further solidifying her reputation as a trailblazing figure in the world of anthropology.
Her lecture provided invaluable wisdom and inspiration to our eager pupils, enriching their understanding of the field and its possibilities.
