As part of our Minerva lecture programme, Senior pupils had the opportunity find out more about military dictatorships in Argentina and enhance their understanding of the A level Spanish curriculum.
During this lecture by Andres Libertun, pupils learnt about external factors such as the Cold War and the USA’s influence as a superpower, and their influence on the continent not only developed our understanding of Latin American dictatorships. The lecturer also provided the pupils with a valuable insight to their effect on Argentina in particular, in turn encouraging them to consider how Juan Domingo Perón’s dictatorship survived as long as it did.
‘As a class, we’d all done research on dictators in various South American countries such as Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Nicaragua. This lecture was absolutely fascinating as it consolidated and extended our knowledge of this political phenomena in Latin America.’Ishaabhya, Spanish A level pupil
