Last week, all pupils from Reception to Year 3 enjoyed a visit from the award-winning author and illustrator Nadia Shireen.

Nadia spoke to Reception and Year 1 about how she became an author and illustrator, a skill she started practicing at a young age. She then took them through a draw-along of one of her favourite characters, Geoffrey.

“I liked it when we were drawing one of the characters from her book, it was really cute – I want her to come back because she was so funny.”Lavinia, Year 1 pupil

In the afternoon, Nadia spoke to Year 2 and Year 3 pupils about how she created the characters for her Grimwood series of books. This was followed by a step-by-step lesson on how to draw the series’ narrator, Eric. The teachers also took part in a fun dance-off, with Mrs Kasza-Martin- Hicks being judged the winner!

“I loved that Nadia told us that not everything has to be perfect when you are illustrating a story!”Nayan, Year 3 pupil

The day finished with the author presenting the new Year 6 Librarians with their badges and congratulating them on all their hard work as excellent reading ambassadors and for keeping the library tidy.

“I liked when Nadia told us that being shy is good and important for being an author because you watch and listen so much.”Hannah, Year 3 pupil

The pupils and all staff truly had a wonderful time with Nadia!
