Last week, all Junior School pupils took part in Outdoor Classroom Day, a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and embrace learning in the great outdoors. As a Gold LOtC (Learning Outside the Classroom) school, this event is always a highlight, allowing pupils to connect their classroom learning with the world around them.
Pupils kicked off the day by using the outdoors to inspire their firework poetry and by exploring shapes in the environment. They also practiced their weaving skills at Forest School, creating stunning woven ‘god’s eye’ poppies in honour of Remembrance Day.
Year 3 had an exciting PSHE lesson as they played games to sort online scenarios into ‘safe’ and ‘not safe’ boxes, helping to develop their understanding of online safety.
“I liked collaborating with others outside the classroom because I really liked being in the fresh air. I think it improves my learning as I am stretching and running around.”Isla, Year 3 pupil
Year 3 also took their science lesson outdoors, exploring and classifying fungi in Jubilee Park with expert Mr Harrop from RSPB Bromley. The pupils were fascinated by their discoveries, and we are grateful to Mr Harrop for sparking their curiosity and enthusiasm.
It was a wonderful day of outdoor learning, and the Junior School looks forward to more experiences like this!
