Head Girl wins the ‘Great Debate’ at the Houses of Parliament
Last Saturday, in the Grand Committee Room of the Houses of Parliament, our Head Girl, Rosanna Elliott, won the Historical Association’s ‘Great Debate’ Vote 100 competition which celebrated a hundred years of female suffrage. Rosanna’s compelling arguments on the topic ‘Was the 1918 extension of the franchise the most significant moment in British democratic history?’ brought her victory against more than twenty sixth form students who had been selected as regional winners in competitions held across the country. It is a fitting way to end this term’s celebration of the award of the vote to some British women in 1918 and a great testament to the strength debating throughout the school and to the serious intellectual engagement in political and historical ideas in our Sixth Form.
