The Year 11, 12 & 13 Geography trip to Iceland during half term was an unforgettable experience that provided students with the opportunity to take part in a range of exciting activities.

First, the group visited the Bridge Between Continents, where they were able to walk from the Eurasian tectonic plate to the North American tectonic plate. They then made their way to Hvammsvik Spa, where they experienced the geothermally heated water that is widely used across Iceland.

The highlight of the trip was the guided glacier walk on the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue, where students saw a variety of glacier ice features, including crevasses and ice sculptures. On another day, the group visited Seljalandsfoss waterfall and after climbing a few sets of stairs, they were able to venture behind it, offering a unique perspective and enhancing their understanding of something they had studied, while also appreciating Iceland’s stunning natural landscape. At Geysir and Strokkur, students were mesmerized by the frequent eruptions and could see firsthand how geothermal forces shape the land.

Overall, the trip to Iceland was an incredibly memorable experience, leaving students with lasting memories and a deeper, more exciting understanding of the topics they study!

“We thoroughly enjoyed our school trip to Iceland. It was an unforgettable experience, with beautiful landscapes everywhere. Our highlight was climbing the glaciers because although it was challenging at times it was also rewarding once we reached the top. We had the opportunity to learn so much about Icelandic culture and history which made the trip even more fascinating. It was a truly memorable experience that we will treasure forever!”Year 12 pupils
