On 13th November our Year 12 Geography students joined an online lecture held by Oxford High School entitled Will it cost the earth to save the planet?
The lecture was led by climate economist Moritz Schwarz who is currently studying a PhD at the School of Geography and Environment. In this lecture, Schwarz examined the quote by Mark Fisher “it is easier to imagine an end to the world than an end to capitalism”.
He explained that eradicating poverty and solving the problems of climate change will be the biggest challenge of the 21st century. He discussed many interesting topics such as Indonesia announcing the site of its new capital city to replace the sinking Jakarta, the UK’s decreasing current carbon emissions and decreasing use of fossil fuels.
