Our GCSE Geography students completed their physical and human fieldwork at Flatford Mill,  the first and original field study centre set up in the UK during the 1940’s.

They stayed in the internationally important building called Willy Lotts’ House, (built in the 1500’s and made famous by John Constable’s ‘Haywain’ painting) and the Mill that was owned and renovated by the Constable family in the 1700’s.

One the first day, the pupils spent some time getting to know the surroundings and completing the Bucket Challenge, where they were given a bucket of equipment to collect a small amount of information to present back to the group.

The second day was spent exploring the River Brett and investigating how the river changed from the upper course to the lower course.  On the final day, they  explored two areas in Ipswich for their human geography fieldwork, and came back to Flatford for a peaceful lunch and an ice cream at the National Trust café before heading home.
