The Reception pupils have been thoroughly enjoying their ‘All Aboard’ topic this term. Each week, they explore a different type of transport. This week, they focused on hot air balloons, following their investigation of cars.
This week, the pupils used their value of ‘curiosity’ as they explored hot air balloons. They had lots of questions about how they work, which led to an exciting experiment in which the children held a plastic bag over a hair dryer to see what would happen, with predictions ranging from ‘it will pop’ to ‘it will go to space!’ Most of the children predicted that the smaller bag would travel the highest. However, when they tested it, they discovered that the larger bag went higher. Reception pupil Polly made the insightful observation that ‘it has more space so more hot air can make it float’.
It was another great learning experience, driven by the Reception class’ curiosity!
