In addition to the recent Trust Cross Country event, our Senior Cross country Runners have had a busy half-term, clocking up plenty of miles.
The English Schools Cross Country Cup kicked off on 15th October at Somerhill Schools, with the first round taking place just before half-term. This was the debut race for some of our Year 7 pupils, who teamed up with Year 8 pupils, while our Year 9 and 10 pupils combined, as did our Year 11 pupils and above. All runners gave a great effort on a challenging course that evoked mixed emotions. Strong performances from our Intermediates (Years 9 & 10) and Seniors (Years 11+) secured their qualification for the Regional Finals.
The Regional Finals were held on 13th November at Vizards Sports Ground in Tonbridge. Regional finals are always fiercely competitive, but Year 11 pupil Jasmine shone as captain, placing fifth overall in the Senior race. Year 9 pupil Kara also impressed, finishing 18th in the Junior race and setting a fantastic example for her team.
The annual Junior Knole Run took place a couple of days later, in a picturesque setting complete with roaming deer. With excitement running high and the added feature of chip-timed numbers, the team excelled among approximately 230 runners. Three girls placed in the top 40: Leela (31st), Beatrice (32nd), and Lucy (37th). The team embodied the values of a Bromley High School girl, showcasing curiosity, compassion, and courage throughout the afternoon.
The Bromley Schools Cross Country competitions were split for the first time this year. The Year 8 to 11 event took place on 6th November at Darrick Wood, while the Year 7 race was held on 20th November at Farringtons.
The Year 8 & 9 team secured 2nd place overall with standout performances from Kara (2nd), Freya (7th), Leela (11th), Lily (14th), Alexa (17th), and Molly (20th). Meanwhile, the Senior team achieved an impressive first place overall, with Jasmine winning the race, Rowan placing 5th, Scarlet 7th, Faith 11th, and Lucy 14th.
The Year 7 team also performed exceptionally, finishing third as a group. Lucy delivered an outstanding performance, winning the entire race, with Beatrice placing fifth, Rakhi 22nd, Miriam 25th, Aaliya 26th, and Olivia 33rd.
Following these successes, nine of our Bromley High School runners, along with three nominees, will represent the school at the Kent Schools Cross Country Championships in Dartford Park this January. Good luck, girls!
