This week, the school has been celebrating Book Week 2023 with a range of exciting events and activities throughout the Junior and Senior Schools.

To kick off the week, the Senior School held a fantastic Book Week Assembly, planned and delivered by Year 12 English students Alice, Pranavi and Samiya.  English teachers and Librarians joined in the fun and hilarity by dressing up as literary characters for pupils to guess in a quiz throughout Monday morning.

On Tuesday, in addition to Lisa Thompson’s author talk, all students received souvenir Book Week postcards designed by talented students and teachers. They spent form time on Tuesday using them to write book recommendations and share these with one another, with every student getting ideas for a good book to read.

Wednesday and Thursday saw Key Stage 3 form groups busy finalising their entries to our book proposal competition. Forms had to propose diverse literary texts to be included in the English curriculum, using A3 boards to present an original book cover and details of their proposal. Exciting and delicious prizes await the winners…

To sum up a week of literary goodness which also included Book Jenga and a Library Takeover, Year 12 English pupils organised reading sessions for their Junior School buddies, showing that reading can be enjoyed by people of any and all ages.

In the Junior School, pupils took part in a Book Character Sock Competition, designing their own sock puppet as their favourite book character.   Pupils also took part in a Book Week Where’s Wally Hunt, searching for ten Where’s Wally figures across the school and receiving Where’s Wally bookmarks.

Book Week celebrations wouldn’t be complete without the annual dress-up competition, with Junior School pupils coming to school dressed as a their favourite book character.

All in all, it has been a wonderful, event-filled week and we are already looking forward to next year’s Book Week!
