It’s been a busy first season for our under 12 hockey teams, with the A and B teams playing a total of six matches each over the Autumn term.
The U12A team had a brilliant start to their first season, winning 4-1 against JAGS back in November. Kara was strong in setting up goals and Coco and Georgie both shone in defence. Confidence was high for their second home game against Streatham and Clapham High School; and they were rewarded after a tight game with a 1-0 win, thanks to excellent defending from Georgia and Kaya.
The away game against Colfes was exciting and closely fought against impressive opposition but they proved themselves stronger (and luckier!) with a win of 3-1. There was a brave performance from Evie, some great saves from Anvesha and a thrilling goal from Rosie. Getting to know each other as a team, they were at our best for their fourth game against Langley Park at home. Hetty and Freya P were at their goal-scoring best and the team enjoyed a fantastic 6-0 victory.
The team finished the season with two in-house games and as expected, were defeated by the Year 8 A team but were successful against Year 7 A team. Kayleigh worked hard in goal and along with Zoha in defence, they made for strong opposition.
“Having won four of our six games and scoring 18 goals with only 8 conceded, we look forward to an even more successful season in Year 8! Thank you to Ms Taylor for all her support and guiding us through the season.”Savannah (U12A hockey team captain)
Our U12B team also had a fantastic start to their first season, winning 4-0 against JAGS. Their second match against Streatham & Clapham High School was a tough match. In the first half Freya and Evie proceeded to score two goals but were closely attacked by the opposition with them scoring three goals. That was the final score which sadly left them with a loss.
In the third match of the season against Colfe’s School, the girls worked well as a team, with Jessica scoring resulting in a 1-0 win. Their fourth match against Langley Park ended in an amazing 6-0 win with two goals scored by Jessica and four by Maisie.
Playing against the Year 8 B team, Jessica and Maisie both scored goals which left them winning 2-0.
Their sixth and final match was against the Year 6 B team. They worked hard, scoring four goals by Jessica, Maisie, Isabella D’Costa and Georgie.
“In our first hockey season, we won five out of six matches! We worked really hard as a team and enjoyed ourselves.” Jessica (U12B hockey team captain)
