This week, pupils from Years 5 and 6 were treated to a captivating and interactive rendition of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream by the Young Shakespeare Company.
The performance proved to be both entertaining and educational, providing the girls with a deeper understanding of the intricate storyline. Audience participation was a highlight, with volunteers stepping into various roles, and the enthusiasm among the students was palpable.
The comedic prowess of the actors left a lasting impression, eliciting laughter throughout the performance.
“It was literally impossible not to laugh – the actors made the story really funny.” Zara, Year 6 pupil
“It was sensational – it modernised Shakespeare in a hysterical way.” Year 5 pupil
One of our remarkable Year 6 pupils, Imogen, wrote a sonnet about the workshop:
Thou play was true delight
Thine acting an utter treat
The players acted with tributes of humour
It was clever and neat.
Thy King of Fairies, thy Queen of Life
We thank thee for the performance
Where we laughed and took part
Underneath the Athenian moon where Shakespeare stole our heart

“The four performers were musical, comedic, great with words and interacted with us really nicely, bringing Shakespeare to life!” Year 5 pupil
