Every fortnight, we will be showcasing pupils’ art and photography work.
This fortnight, we’re celebrating the fantastic work by Year 9 pupils on a collaborative English and Art task.
Year 9 pupils have been learning about monuments and their meanings in both English and Art lessons last term. In English, pupils studied Taj Mahal, exploring its context and literary associations. In Art, pupils explored why we memorialise certain people in monuments or on plinths. For this collaborative piece of work, pupils first drew their own personal memorial to love and devotion, just as the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan created for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Then another Year 9 pupil was given their drawing and asked to write a piece of descriptive prose based on the drawing.
Below are some of the creative and imaginative responses!
