For our Alumna of the Month interview, we spoke to Sabrina Sinha, Junior Great British Middle Distance & Cross Country Athlete.
Sabrina read BSc Geology and Physical Geography and is now studying for a Masters in International Business Management at the University of Birmingham. She is a full time Junior Great British Middle Distance & Cross Country Athlete and part of the England Athletics Talent Hub at the University of Birmingham.
Please tell us more about your athletics journey
My athletics story involves a long journey from being a very successful youth and junior middle distance track and cross country athlete with lots of national and international titles (I was ranked first in Europe at one point) with several GB vests.
Unfortunately, a health condition called endometriosis then stopped my ability to compete in athletics for three years. Since treatment, I have managed to return to athletics and last month gained my first GB vest post endometriosis diagnosis – it has been a long difficult journey to get back to where I am today.
Why did you choose to study at Bromley High School?
I chose Bromley High School for its sports facilities. The teachers were also very supportive of me as an athlete which was ideal considering I had just been awarded my first international vest at the time.
What aspects of Bromley High School did you most enjoy, and find most rewarding?
I obviously enjoyed the Sport Department and the wonderful supportive staff – I still remember them fondly. It was always a pleasure to represent the school in all sports, not just athletics.
What is your favourite memory of being at Bromley High School?
I had many but was particularly proud to see a photo of me hurdling on a huge poster promoting the school.
What value do you get out of your connections with your fellow alumnae?
It’s nice to see an ongoing support from the GDST when my achievements are noticed on social media. You feel like you are still part of the ‘GDST family’. I like to inspire girls to take up any forms of sport so if my profile can do this, that’s a huge positive!
How have you benefited from being part of the wider GDST community?
Having also attended a GDST Junior School, I feel that being part of the GDST community from a young age definitely contributed to me being the confident young lady I am today.
