As two A-level students who have had an interest in science from a young age, pupils Imogen and Micol wanted to encourage younger girls by nurturing their curiosity for the subject.

With the help of Miss Garlick, they launched the Junior Journal Club for Years 8 to 10, where they are given the opportunity to research and present ideas from science articles. Every fortnight they meet to discuss different topics, from overuse of antibiotics to diseases in chickens, and have endeavoured to continue this throughout lockdown.

During their most recent Google Meet they considered some myths and conspiracies about COVID-19 and the impact they have on the public. It was a topical way to aid their understanding of the dangers of false information in the media.

The club has thus far been a success and a great way for students to broaden their knowledge of concepts, articulate their opinions and to apply their school learning to real life situations.
