It has been an energetic term at Bromley High School, with house events taking place almost every week, providing numerous opportunities for pupils to showcase their talents.

The term kicked off with a general knowledge quiz, comprised of two questions from each Head of Department in the school, with Elmfield emerging victorious.

Mrs Freeman and Mrs Shannon ran their annual Design a Historic Building competition, where pupils were invited to design any building of their choosing in any medium. Entries included 3D models made of cardboard and several designs on Minecraft, with the winning entry awarded to Fernbank‘s Lucy in Year 10.

This year’s World Book Day saw greater participation than ever before, with over 350 pupils and staff in the Senior School alone. Oakdene led the charge, while Speldhurst’s Nerin won the individual prize for best-dressed, impressively portraying Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.

Year 8 pupils took part in a Pi Day competition, reciting as many digits of Pi as possible from memory. Elmfield’s Christalin won with an impressive 100 digits, which she showcased during a Pi Day assembly with Mr Foreman. However, Speldhurst claimed victory in the event for having the greatest number of pupils reciting over 20 digits of Pi.

Year 9 pupils have been busy creating their rainforest creatures in a highly creative event. Pupils had the opportunity not only to design their creatures but also to explain their diet, predators, and how their design suited survival in rainforest conditions. Congratulations to Elmfield’s Lucia for her imaginative and beautifully detailed creature.

The highlight of the term was House Shout, an event the pupils will surely remember for years to come. After three rehearsals with their newly appointed House Captains, Fernbank, Oakdene, Speldhurst, and Elmfield competed on the Sports Hall stage, presenting mash-ups of catchy songs, acrobatics, dance moves, instruments, actions, and props. The judges’ decision was unanimous, with Speldhurst taking the trophy.

“Looking ahead, there are more exciting events to look forward to in the Summer Term, including cake decorating, quad games, Bromley’s Got Talent, and Sports Day, all happening next term!”Mrs Shannon, Head of Houses

Who will claim the house trophy for 2025? The leaderboard is still up for grabs! Currently, Elmfield is leading with 49 points, followed by Fernbank with 40, Speldhurst with 39, and Oakdene with 38.
