Scholarships are awarded as a fixed percentage reduction in fees, usually between 5 and 20%, for the full two years of our Sixth Form.

Sixth Form Drama Scholarships are awarded to students who can demonstrate skill, competence and commitment to the subject and who will also help to promote the department on a wider level throughout the school.

Eligibility

  • You must apply online for this scholarship by Monday 14th October 2024.
  • Candidates are to submit a letter of approximately 200 words outlining the reasons they are applying. You may wish to consider the following:
    – Your understanding of what the scholarship entails
    – Your suitability for the role of scholar
    – Your commitment to Drama in the school
    – Your understanding of Drama as a whole
    – Your Drama interests

Selection process

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an audition and informal interview on w/c 11th November 2024.

Candidates may wish to prepare a piece to show at this session or bring along any additional material to support the application.

  • Scholar society programme: each half-term, scholars will come together for a workshop and discussion targeted at university of career preparation
  • Mentoring from specialist staff: 1:1 mentoring from specialist member of staff about academic progress and recommendations on how to wider learning
  • Scholar society open mic: each term, scholars will be invited to present at an informal event for parents, teachers and special guests from different areas of scholarship and the workplace on an area of interest or performance depending on scholarship area.

What skills should I have to be a Drama Scholar?

Essential:

  • To demonstrate high levels of competence in performance, evidenced by work in a variety of practical environments
  • To demonstrate commitment to drama as a practical activity through persistence and determination
  • To demonstrate commitment to drama as an academic pursuit with a high level of achievement
  • To behave in such a manner as to be a role model to both their peers and the younger members of the school
  • To be able to work creatively and efficiently with others and to actively encourage participation
  • To be able to promote the department on a wider level throughout the school
  • To take responsibility for running departmental activities alongside the Head of Drama.
Desirable:

  • To seek further opportunities to develop drama within the school environment and to potentially develop their own areas of interest
  • To take an active role in current practical activities in both organisation and execution
  • To demonstrate a wider interest in drama as a subject
  • To demonstrate confidence when dealing with others, particularly younger members of the school community
  • To manage a range of tasks within a drama framework including efficient use of time and resources
  • To be able to think creatively and beyond the conventional and to inspire others to do the same.
