New for 2024, the Minerva Scholarship is designed to empower female students in becoming influential voices in public speaking, debates, and global conversations.

Eligibility

  • You must apply online for this scholarship
  • All pupils who successfully pass the 11+ Entrance Examination are eligible
  • A video statement by the pupil should be included with the application that supports the pupil’s suitability for the scholarship.  We will not accept an application without an accompanying video.

Selection process

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted after the Entrance Examination. 

Pupils who have been shortlisted will be invited to attend an interview the week commencing 13th January 2025.  Interviews will include a discussion about a range of different subjects to show a love of learning.

Minerva Scholar benefits

Minerva scholars will benefit from a wide range of exciting opportunities including:

  • Entrance and tutoring for Global Perspectives GCSE: enrolment onto additional qualification ‘Global Perspectives’ to be sat at the end of Year 9, especially for scholars
  • Specialist mentoring by the Sixth Form debating team, who won the national championships this year
  • Specific preparation for national and international competitions
  • Speaking at open days and public facing events
  • Scholar society programme: each half-term, scholars will come together for a workshop and discussion targeted at university of career preparation
  • Mentoring from specialist staff: 1:1 mentoring from specialist member of staff about academic progress and recommendations on how to wider learning
  • Scholar society open mic: each term, scholars will be invited to present at an informal event for parents, teachers and special guests from different areas of scholarship and the workplace on an area of interest or performance depending on scholarship area.

What skills should I have to be a Minverva Scholar?

Essential:

  • Display a high level of competence in articulating ideas and opinions effectively in front of an audience
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to engaging in debates and discussions on various topics
  • Show a keen interest and understanding of international affairs, cultures, and global issues
  • Show others how to be kind, respectful, and helpful, so they can look up to you
  • Work well with with peers, coming up with interesting ideas and fostering a supportive and inclusive team environment
  • Keep trying your best, even when things get tricky, because that’s how you get better
  • Advocate for diverse perspectives and inclusivity in discussions, promoting a more comprehensive understanding of global matters.
Desirable:

  • Seek out and propose opportunities to enhance the presence of public speaking and debate within the school environment
  • Provide support in organising and facilitating activities within the scholarship team, fostering a cooperative atmosphere
  • Display a broader interest in various subjects, connecting them to global events and issues
  • Approach challenges with a positive attitude, showing a willingness to overcome obstacles and learn from experiences
  • Demonstrate the ability to think creatively and beyond conventional methods in addressing complex topics and debates
  • Engage with the wider school community, encouraging dialogue and exchange of ideas related to global debates and public speaking.
