Congratulations to Upper Sixth pupils Isabel, Imogen and Emily for achieving the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Despite all the challenges thrown at them by the Coronavirus pandemic, they were fortunate enough to complete the physical, skills, volunteering, residential and expedition sections of the award.
For their residential, Isabel attended a Marine Science Camp during the summer of 2020. She spent a week sampling along the rocky shore ecosystem, observing different species of plankton under a microscope and listening to talks from the Marine Biological Association about surveying vessels. As she hopes to study Biological Sciences at the University of Exeter, the camp provided a great insight into her future university life. Imogen completed a week long residential trip during the summer of 2019 holiday, full of activity and adventure including mountaineering.
The final task of the Gold award is completing an expedition. Imogen opted for a walking expedition, completing a long and arduous five-day expedition in The Chiltern Hills. Isabel joined a group of pupils paddling 60 miles upstream on the Thames, during very strong winds.

The girls will formally receive their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards at St James’s Palace in the coming months.
