Last night we were delighted to welcome pupils, parents, staff, and our guest speaker Olympic hockey gold medalist Susannah Townsend MBE at the annual Sports Dinner, celebrating another great year of sport at Bromley High School.

We were thrilled to welcome Susannah Townsend, English international field hockey player, as guest speaker for the evening.  A fierce competitor, Townsend made her international debut back in 2008 and was part of the Great Britain team that won Olympic Gold at Rio 2016.  She also helped England to a remarkable gold at the 2015 Europeans and have a number of other medals from major tournaments to her name too.

 

Susannah struggled with injury after Rio but has since hit back on all cylinders and played a crucial role as GB qualified for a place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.  She spoke to our guests about her personal experiences throughout her time at school, and gave invaluable advice to the girls about how to pursue a successful career in professional sport.

Georgia Gray, who was awarded The Castledine Cup for Commitment to Hockey said “The past seven years of hockey at Bromley High have been so incredibly enjoyable and I feel so lucky to have been able to captain such an amazing team for my last year in a sport. I wish next year’s teams every success.

I’m so grateful for the input from teachers, parents and teammates over the last 14 years and I know I have made friendships and memories for life. From winning sports day races in Reception to hockey trust champions in Year 11, sport at Bromley High and hockey in particular has taught me so much about self-belief and resilience and I want to thank the teachers for giving me the opportunity of being sports captain.”

During the evening, the School also launched its new Astro Appeal to raise £300,000 to install a state of the art playing surface for netball, hockey and tennis.
