This week, Year 10 students visited The Reach, a renowned climbing facility, as part of their PE GCSE curriculum.

Over the two days, they covered various aspects of climbing, including tying themselves to the ropes and tackling different levels of difficulty. They faced numerous physical challenges, with their hands becoming sore from extensive climbing. However, this did not deter them from completing the course and participating in various challenges, such as overhangs, bridging, and 6a walls.

The students learned a range of skills, including foot swaps, palming, and smearing, and were educated on different methods and safety precautions commonly used in outdoor climbing.

The climbs also tested their mental toughness, requiring them to demonstrate perseverance, resilience, and motivation to attempt and succeed in the challenging climbs. They were particularly proud of their friends who overcame their fears to successfully complete the competition phase.

Here’s the proofread quote: “It was very beneficial to learn in a wonderful climbing facility that had previously trained expert climbers in the weeks leading up to the Olympics. We all greatly enjoyed our experience at The Reach and are looking forward to our overall result.”Emily & Caitlin, Year 10 students
