During Science Week in March, Hawthorns pupils in Years 3 to 6 participated in the “If I Were an Engineer” competition, showcasing their inventive solutions to various problems.

Organised by Primary Engineer, the flagship competition invites pupils of all ages, from primary to secondary schools, to unleash their creativity, problem-solving skills, and writing abilities to tackle real-world problems. By interviewing engineering professionals and creating annotated illustrations of their innovative solutions, students embark on a journey of discovery and learning.

Each pupil devised an invention to solve a problem and created a poster showcasing their design and explanation. Engineers reviewed the entries and awarded them as pass, merit, distinction, or distinction-shortlisted for potential winners.

Our Junior pupils achieved 23 passes, 64 merits, and 24 distinctions, with 6 of these being shortlisted.

The shortlisted entries are now being judged by VIPs from the engineering world, and these pupils could become this year’s regional winners!
