The Junior School was delighted to welcome popular author and journalist Tọlá Okogwu on Monday.
Tọlá has written a diverse range of books for all Junior School-age children and talked to them about her journey to becoming an author while sharing three of her creations with the students.
Reception and Year 1 enjoyed listening to Tọlá reading her latest title, *Bekah and the Moon*, and learned all about solar eclipses along the way. Year 2 and 3 were treated to a tour of Shimmerton, the setting of Tọlá’s *Aziza* books, before practicing their oral storytelling skills and creating their own story settings and characters. Lastly, Years 4, 5, and 6 considered what truly makes a superhero before hearing a reading from Tọlá’s first novel in the *Onyeka* series.
Everyone agreed Tọlá is a master storyteller who inspired us to follow our dreams and, of course, read her books!
“I really liked how Tọlá introduced us to a whole new world and helped us think about our own new world.” Nayan, Year 2 pupil
“I loved hearing about how she wanted her daughters to experience black people in books and how that inspired her to be an author. I also loved how her characters all had different superpowers.” Avery, Year 4 pupil
