On Friday morning, A level Philosophy & Theology and Computer Science pupils embarked on a visit to Google DeepMind’s London headquarters. There, they delved into the world of technology, society, and ethics, examining the profound implications arising from the advancement of artificial intelligence.
After a special Google breakfast, pupils engaged in a wide-ranging and far-reaching discussion of artificial intelligence with DeepMind’s Head of Global Policy and Head of Public Affairs. The questions explored ranged from how to harness the enormous potential benefits of AI in fields such as medicine, scientific research, and energy production to how to mitigate the risk of powerful AI tools being used and abused to cause accidental and deliberate harm.
The visit was rounded off with a walk through the DeepMind office, giving pupils a glimpse of working life in one of the most rapidly developing and profoundly important fields of human endeavour.
