Welcome to The Book Corner, a biweekly book review by a member of our fantastic Bromley High School community.

For this week, we have a contribution from Computer Science teacher, Ms. Rebecca McRoberts. In addition to being an avid reader, Ms McRoberts enjoys bouldering and has grown rather attached to the Computer Science department’s robot dog, whom she affectionately calls ‘Wee Bobby’.

‘The Ultimate Guide to Artificial Intelligence in Education’ by Daniel Fitzpatrick et. al

As times are changing and AI is becoming more commonplace, it is important that we as educators and, crucially, I as a teacher of Computer Science, adapt to this new world.

This book has been my guide to navigating the integration of AI into the school curriculum, and it has provided me with a plethora of teaching strategies that can be easily implemented. With each chapter, the authors demystify complex AI concepts, offering practical insights and real-life examples that resonate with my own experiences.

The highlights for me are the various AI tools that I can use right now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed trying them out in my own classroom. Of course, ChatGPT makes an appearance, and this book provides helpful guidance for us to use this amazing software safely and meaningfully.

Overall, I am of the belief that AI is going to merge seamlessly with our lives, so this is the time to get ahead and learn how to make the most of it.
