On Tuesday 5th March, 15 Yr 8 students travelled to ASOS Head Office for a STEM Insight day with The Stemettes.

The first activity was a tour of the building which included talking to a QA engineer about website and app testing.  Next the girls were shown 1 of 14 photo studios where a live shoot was taking place; ASOS photograph 4000 items of clothing a week! As the tour continued, students walked past rails of clothing full of items ready to be photographed alongside the open plan office full of meetings and busy staff.  The final stop on the tour was the cutting room where skilled tailors were drafting up examples of new clothing items which really highlighted how fast the fashion industry moves.

Bromley High students impressed the staff with their knowledge of html programming.  During lunch students were able to network with staff and were delighted to speak to Katie Everest, a Bromley High Alumna and marketing assistant at ASOS.

Students then worked in groups to write code for a website and wireframe an app for International Women’s Day 2019.  The work the students produced in a short amount of time was exceptional and they collaborated confidently with the other schools.  The groups had to present their websites to a team of judges consisting of ASOS executives who were really impressed with what they saw.

The day finished with a Q and A sessions where Bromley High Students asked some excellent questions on use of data and regarding artificial intelligence.  All students were given ASOS goody bags and left being inspired by the women they had met working at ASOS.
