On Friday, Bromley High School joined schools across the UK to celebrate Number Day 2024, by developing and practising the recognition of different types of numbers and raising money for the NSPCC.
To start the day, our amazing Maths Prefects delivered an assembly in which they introduced pupils to the NSPCC and the activities they could take part in on the day in order to raise money for this charity. Staff and students therefore dressed up for Number Day. Congratulations to Meher and Ms. McRoberts who won best-dressed on the day!
As per the Bromley High School tradition, teachers wore special numbers and pupils carried out calculations based on these numbers. Congratulations to Year 9 pupils Eniola and Fayo who won this competition.
In Mathematics classes, Year 7 and 8 pupils engaged in a fun detective game. Pupils had to work in groups and solve mathematically related puzzles to find the guilty suspect. Each puzzle eliminated an innocent suspect on the Sums of Anarchy website.
Year 9 and 10 pupils tackled some ‘tricksy maths’ questions, such as ‘How much soil is there in a hole measuring 3 by 4 by 5 centimetres?’ and ‘A farmer has 22 cows, lightning kills all but 5 of the cows. How many are still alive?’ These questions left the students feeling amused and perplexed.
During form time, pupils enjoyed competing in mathematics-based activities, such as Pictionary and brainteasers.
Pupils also enjoyed a bake sale organised to raise a further £600 for our chosen charity.
Congratulations to our Star Baker: Year 9 pupil Eniola. Thank you and well done to all bakers involved!
“Number Day was a great way for pupils to engage with mathematics while having fun and raising money for a great cause. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success.”Mrs Olatunji, Mathematics Teacher
